About

Ryan Kaskel

I’m Ryan Kaskel, Director of Technology at Elsewhen. Welcome to my personal website.

Background

I was born in Miami, Florida, on 22 January 1987 and attended Miami Palmetto Senior High School. I studied history at Tufts University, graduating in 2010, and later earned an MA in Medieval History from King’s College London. I now live in London.

Technology

I mainly write Rust and Python. I use macOS and Arch Linux, with Emacs nightly as my editor. I type using the Colemak keyboard layout and customise it with Karabiner.

My home network runs on UniFi, with Tailscale connecting devices and services, and my home lab uses k3s. I use Alfred for productivity, Kagi for search and Orion as my browser.

Interests

I enjoy running and hiking. I’m an Adirondack 46er (#17415), and I support Arsenal.

I’m interested in railways, aviation and airport design, and I read history, fiction and technical books.

I speak conversational Polish and some Spanish. I’ve also studied Latin and Kiswahili.
